From September to May, we run monthly duathlons/triathlons for kids at Five Islands Secondary College, Port Kembla, in conjunction with the adult races.

Every Saturday during Daylight Savings hours, the club runs a triathlon skills session, with the focus on open water swimming, transitions and running. The session is held jointly with the Illawarra Academy of Sport.

Meet at Belmore Basin at 1:50pm for a 4:30pm start. Check the Facebook page for updates and cancellations.

Please note, parents are required to attend kids training sessions.

​Visitors are always welcome at our events, although a one-day membership and insurance fee will be charged. After three events, you will be required to join the club to participate in additional events.

5-6 Year Olds

15m swim/wade - 500m bike - 200m run

7-9 Year Olds

50m swim - 2km bike - 600m run

10-12 Year Olds

100m swim - 3km bike - 900m run

Race Details

Our junior course is ideal for 5-11 year olds, but older kids who are new to triathlon are also welcome. We encourage participation, with the focus on safety and fun with the age groups only used as guide. Your child’s race distance can be varied based on ability. Our course design gives the full triathlon experience where the kids get the opportunity to swim / wade in the open water, bike on a fully closed road and run on a shared footpath. A common myth is that you need a good bike to participate, however this isn’t true with the majority of our kids racing on BMX’s, mountain bikes and even some still on training wheels!

What to Bring

Don't forget to bring:

  • swimsuit or tri suit

  • goggles

  • bicycle

  • bicycle helmet

  • a top to wear while riding and running
    (or tri suit, rash vest, or one piece swimmers for girls)

  • running shoes

  • sunscreen

Info for Parents


Please note that parents are required to attend all juniors training and races.

All ITC junior races rely on parents volunteering to help with event set-up, registration, marshalling, social activities and packing up.


We require 1 parent per family to always be present at the event. On arrival, please see the race director volunteer for a role.
