Sunday was the first of the Winter Duathlon Races. The race conditions were cool but clear for the 25 competitors who braved the early morning start.
For the first time the race set-up was done by D&D Traffic Management which saved a lot of time and effort for the Committee. The first run leg was hotly contended with Jono Wheaton taking an early lead. This soon changed with Luke Zweers leading out on to the bike leg. He was followed and eventually over-taken by Ian Kennerley. It was however Luke's race and he finished strongly in the final run leg to win the overall race from Ian. In the women's race it was Tanya Strevens who showed great form on her new Giant to compete strongly throughout the race to win, followed by new-comer Ashley Thomas and Nicole Nugara in third place.
The next Duathlon will be held on 22 August 2010.
