2005 - 2006 SEASON - OLD NEWS 15/05/06 2005/2006 ILLAWARRA TRIATHLON CLUB PRESENTATION NIGHT Date/Time – FRIDAY June 2nd 6:30pm for 7:00pm at Towradgi Surf Club. Food : QUALITY food from Crown Catering. Drinks: Table Wine and soft drink, BYO beer, spirit etc. Dress: Cocktail formal from any era. Music: Will be provided by DJ Alex so you can dance the night away.

23/04/06 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 7 What a day, a clear and crisp day greeted all athletes for our last race of the year. The ever improving James Marsden had a great swim and fast run to pip Kirk Vandeweghe close to the line. Ryan Hennessy also ran well for third. While our females were led by the visiting Chili resident Barbara Rivenos followed by Julie Sgangarella and first timer Emma Bronneberg.

25/03/06 We're BACK!!!! After some technical difficulties. Port Kembla Triathlon Race 6 The Junior Elites were out in force with a strong showing. Brendan Sexton had a strong race to come in for the win, followed by Paul Micale, Erin Densham and Ben Hammond. Trudi Barnes had an excellent race to follow the Junior Elites home for a strong finish. Remember that our LAST RACE is on the 23/04/06. Come along for a great day of racing.
20/02/06 Australian Long Course Championships Congratulations to all those that raced in the VERY WET conditions down at Huskisson. Well done to Melinda Sharpe... Top 5 in the Country! RESULTS
20/02/06 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 5 Slightly overcast but humid conditions made for some HOT racing. Mark Scott rode an impressive time to set up the win, followed by Scott Harrison who ran the house down after his 180km TT the day before, with the ever consistent front runner Kirk Vandeweghe taking third. Trudi Barnes once again showed a clean pair of heals taking it to the men with Melinda Sharpe and Jessica Simpson coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
22/01/06 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 4 Clear and warm conditions made for some fast racing as the Junior Elites also came out to whip up the pace. Ben Yates had some fast transitions and splits to take the win from Aaron Royle with Trudi Barnes showed great from to take third. See you all there for the next race. Remember that if you have not joined the club, now is the time.
12/01/06 WOW!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR - FIRST RACE IN 2006 MOVED, Sunday swims at 1pm The January race has been moved to the 22/01/2006 to allow people to race Kurnell. Remember REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 7:40am This allows the people taking registrations to race as well. So don't be selfish please be there early or you will not be allowed to register to race. There will be at least two waves this Sunday. You will be allocated your wave based on numbers present and previous times. Sunday Swims now start at 1pm instead of 2pm.
18/12/05 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 3 What a great day, the sun was out and flat conditions greeted a field of 24. In the men's race Lou Caruana held of Kirk Vandeweghe followed by a determined Steven Newman. Whilst Trudi Barnes took a strong win over Tanya Strevens and an improving Carolyn Dews. Take the time to enjoy your Christmas break. See you all at the Christmas Aquathon party on Wend 21st December.

CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY NEXT Wednesday, 21st December, 6pm Come along for the swim/run session at 6pm at Wollongong Harbour. Come ready for a work out with Kirk and then a BBQ after. The theme for this session is Christmas so see if you can find something appropriately Christmassy to run/swim in! The session will also be designed around a team format so be prepared !!! Food and drink will be supplied to club members and family. Any extras are welcome but please bring your BBQ and drink.
Change of CLUB race date – JANUARY Due to a clash with the Kurnell Race the club race set down for the 15th January has been moved to 22nd JANUARY The Kurnell races are open to all TNSW members and we will be trying to get a large contingent of members up there for this race. You can enter online now as the number of competitors is limited.
Nelson's Bay Saturday 6th May 2006 The club Champs are on again in May, put the date in your diary!! Accommodation has been booked in 6 unit at the same place as last year. Three of the units have already gone or partly gone. Please start thinking about the event so that accommodation can be sorted out.
27/11/05 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 2 Drama at Port Kembla, wet roads and a gloomy weather greeted a strong field of 26 for a all in wave start. Due to some minor navigation problems the results are preliminary at this stage.
18/11/05 Race 2 27/11/2005 The second race of the year is on Sunday 27 November. You will have all Saturday to recover from our Friday night party. SEE YOU THERE
02/11/05 Nelson Bay Fundraiser Night The triathlon season is underway. Let's party together on Friday 25 November to raise money for the end of season club championships to be held in Nelson Bay. Cost is just $15 per person for food and a great night of entertainment.
01/11/05 Port Kembla Triathlon Race 1 The slightly overcast and cool conditions made for a great day of racing. A field of 28 started with Jenny Simpson and Sue Newman their first Triathlon. The scuffed up Kirk Vandeweghe showed that a bit of XTRERRA gravel rash does not slow him down. He took the line honours for the day followed by a fit Scott Harrison with Scott Wilsmore taking a fine 3rd. Trudi Barnes made a solid return to win the ladies with Tanya Strevens taking 2nd after returning from injury, young Sophie McLeod came home for third. See you all there for the next race. Remember that if you have not joined the club, now is the time.

breaks through at Boston Triathlon 19/09/05 AQUATHLON STARTS Sunday 25th September
The first aquathlon (handicapped start) of
the year is at the University pool Sept 25th. These will run for 4
weeks. The course will be similar to past years i.e. 400 m swim
with 4 km bush/oval/road run.
People will start off on a handicapped start
swimming in double lanes of the pool.
This is not a hard core race but a chance to
come out and have some fun and socialise.
The event starts at 2:00PM and the cost is
$5.00 per person.
Please when you come to the pool walk around
the eastern side of the URAC building towards the Tennis courts and you
will enter there through back gate.
Do not pay the pool attendant or the front
desk staff.
Please come early in order to register and
have a warm up swim and so we can get things going right at 2:00PM.

A lot of effort has been expended going through the processes to enable this race to go ahead. Please support it. If you do not wish to race we will require marshals on the course and your help would be most appreciated. Help will be needed from 7am to get the race set up which includes setting up the racks and putting the signage out.

29/08/05 Sport Dietition and Nutritionist Seminar The Illawarra Triathlon Club has arranged for a Nutrition Seminar to be presented by leading Sport Dietition and Nutritionist Susie Burrell.The seminar will be held at Wiseman's Park Bowling Club on Tuesday 13th September starting at 7pm. This exciting evening will go over the finer details of sports nutrition and answer some questions you may have about feeding your body the fuel it needs to perform to your maximum. Susie Burrell (B.Nutr & Diet (Hons), B.Sc (psych)(Hons)) is a sports dietitian for the Parramatta Eels Rugby League, Sydney University Rugby Club and Wollongong Hawks Basketball Teams. 26/08/05 Next Wednesday 31st August at 7pm is the time of the year when tasks for the next season are up for grabs (also known as the AGM) The success of our club depends on all of us as no one else is going to organise our races or functions. Please come along on Wednesday at 7pm, Wiseman’s Park Bowling club for a short get together. There will be free drinks for the first 10 people who show up and maybe a plate or two of hot chips.
23/08/05 DUATHLON RESULTS Our first Duathlon of the season saw Ben Yates hold off a fast Phil Giles with Bill McClatchie coming home for third. Myre Moller took the honours in the female field. Port Kembla Duathlon 21 August 2005 It was great to see the support for the Marshall's so early in the season.
