ITC Athletes do well.

We had some very good results recently for some of our ITC members.

Firstly we had Kirk Vandeweghe who finished 6th in the Australian 24hr SOLO Mountain Bike Championships.  Kirk completed 17 laps (323km) in 24hours.  He also drank 14 litres of Gatorade, 2 litres of coke, 4 cans of V,3 coffees and 10000 calories of other food. Kirk will now consider taking on the World 24hr SOLO MTB Championships in Canada, Sept 2005.

Also on the same weekend Nicky Joyce collected 2 gold medals in the NSW Masters Championships. ON the first day she won the Individual Time Trial Championships, where she finished just 0.47 seconds in front of second.  Then on the next day Nicky took part in the Road Race and came through for another win.

WELL DONE TO BOTH OF YOU

12/10/04

Just a reminder that this Sunday 17th October at 2:00pm the aquathon is on at Belmore Basin.

It will be 400m swim 5 km run approx. After the race we will have a barbeque.

Don't forgot your wetsuit and also remember in order to participate you must wear a coloured swim cap. If you don't feel like doing it all just come for a swim or a run, or a look.

06/10/04

06/10/04

The next Aquathon will be this Sunday Oct 10 at 2pm.   It will be held at the University once again.
Please be there 30 mins early to register and have a warm up swim or run. Cost is 5 bucks and kids are free. There is no need to pay pool entry at the front desk or pool office. The aquathon is 400 m swim 4 km run through trails and roads around university. The kids race is a shorter version. The meeting spot/transition area is the grassy area on north side of pool deck. When you come  go around the  eastern side of the URAC building and walk towards tennis courts at back of pool.
NOTE:
The following week Oct 17th, the aquathon will be held at Belmore Basin not the university pool. Similar format to Wednesday night aquathons.

21/09/04

The first Aquathon for the year will be held at the University pool at 2:00pm this Sunday the 26th September.

Please be there 1/2 hour to 45min before the start in order to register, warm up and run the trail section (appox 600m) so you know where you are going.

It will be a handicapped 400m swim plus a 2 lap 4km mystery run through bush trails ,on the roads and around ovals on the university grounds. People will go off in ten seconds intervals and the swim will be in double lanes so there is lots of room for passing.

This weekend will also be the launch of the Illawarra Triathlon Club (ITC) new junior program named the  ITC Grass Roots Junior Development Program.
This program is aiming to target athletes aged 8-15 as of 31/12/05 within the Illawarra.
A Junior Aquathlon will be run as an introduction to the program.  So come along and have a go.  Juniors will swim 200m then run 2km around the oval.

The cost is 5 dollars for everyone.
When you come to the pool just say you are with the Illawarra tri club and they will let you through the gate. Don't need to pay then. The meeting spot is the grassy area on the north side of the pool. That is where the transition will be and the ICE CREAM AFTERWARDS :)

EXCITING NEW ITC Grass Roots Junior Development Program

This program coincides with the commitment Triathlon NSW has made in this past year to further bolster their excellent Junior Development program by aiming to increase it’s base of Junior competitors at the grass roots level of the sport. The program is to encourage kids into the sport by providing a safe, happy and friendly environment for them to be around which is sustainable.

The ITC Grass Roots Junior Development Program will help in providing a great foundation for the growth of the sport and will be a great success for all those involved.  The program is aimed to be one that is simple, sustainable, safe, consistent and fun.

Two areas the ITC Grass Roots Junior Development Program will focus on are: Training and Racing.
The program provides regular training that teaches them the required skills of our sport and utilises the ITC club Aquathons to provide regular racing in a non-competitive environment.
Initially training will involved participating in two regular sessions per week. As the interest and experience grows the frequency of the sessions will be increased.
